Costs a few dollars more

I was hesitant to see a DAC for almost $10, but it won me over. Arrived as announced, everything plugged in and switched to optical, everything worked right away. High quality audio, dual 3.5mm output and volume control when you need it (ie if you want to plug speakers out of your reach, turn them on and use the knob on them to change the volume. Otherwise, just maximize the volume output - no distortion, clipping or anything I have for my Xbox One this works) I've searched to no avail for the one x sample rate, I don't think it's 192kHz but at least I know it's with the Board can handle, although you can certainly connect directly to powered speakers or a sound system. I believe you can even play Dolby 5.1 and 7.1 through an optical system, although I believe you can't connect an optical system directly to a sound system, the analog conversion will still downscale it to stereo, so it's really for people without surround sound. My main criteria was that when reviewing slightly cheaper DACs, one was replaced for every other review. I wanted it to work the first time. These seem inclined. Be aware it is clear in the photos but you only get a micro USB cable to power it. You'll need your own box or USB strip to power it. USB power draws so much these days that I highly recommend surge protectors with dedicated sets of USB outlets for those power-only ports, although USB-only strips that expand the total number of PCs often include power-only ports as well . You can even power it from the Xbox USB port if you want, although that wouldn't be my first choice. Conclusion: Well built, looks good, works well, fair price, I would recommend.

Pros
  • Signal converter
Cons
  • Very expensive
