I was a little skeptical about what looks like satin from the outside; but inside it's covered with black plastic so it's waterproof and non-shedding. I consider water repellency to be a temporary condition until the material is saturated. Hats are a good size too. I have short, very thick hair, which I tie in a pineapple when I shower, and everything stays dry under these hats. You get four in one pack, so you'll have enough to share and still have a backup. The outer "satin" does not repel water, but dries quickly enough. This is something to consider when you travel. They will be wet on the outside, but you can flip them over to pack in a pinch. Just remember to unpack them to dry when you arrive at your destination. Overall a good buy.
