Review on πŸ”Œ Custom 4-Pin Trailer Wiring Harness for Subaru Ascent, Forester, Outback, Crosstrek, XV – CURT 56040, Black by Paul Ajayi

Plug and play on the 2011 Outback. Works well with the Uhaul trailer so far.

Best of all, there are no wires to cut or splice. Aside from having to drill a hole, everything on the 2011 Outback 2.5i Premium was just plug and play. It took a while to locate the factory connector which sits behind the driver's rear quarter panel and in front of the C-pillar bracket. The factory connector had a very short cord, so it was a little tricky to connect without removing the panel, but managed to connect. I drilled a hole for a ground screw of the size specified in the instructions, but the hole was too small and had to be drilled to the next size up. I routed the wiring down through the drain hole in the spare wheel bay and cut a slit in the rubber plug to allow the wire to pass through. Used gorilla tape to secure the wiring and control box. I sealed the box on the top level in the spare tire compartment to protect it from any moisture that might get in there. Works well with the Uhaul trailer so far.
