Review on Oxford 590 OF172 Magnum U Lock 258Mm by Jason Rogness

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Sturdy lock but limited installation options

This lock is Sold Secure Gold certified and has 4 ART stars. These are the two largest independent lock inspection bodies and are the best rated for U-locks at least. The lock itself is manufactured by Tongyong and resold by a number of other companies, in this case Oxford. Visit the ART website to see more and click on the UK flag in the top right corner, then filter by U-locks and 4 stars. (stichtingart.nl) The picture is a bit misleading as the version sold here is a slightly shorter version, so less impressive. But it's still difficult to install due to the included bracket. I also have an Abus U-lock for comparison and it comes with a VERY versatile bracket. This mount only allows the "U" portion of the "U" lock to be parallel to the narrow row of round tubes on your bike. On the Cannondale Quick that this was supposed to be on, I couldn't find a single spot to get the prybar to work. Many of the tubes are out of round, too big and/or too small, and all properly sized tubes don't have enough clearance to work (the triangle of the bike is too small). I've since ordered a rubber sheet to try and wrap the "too narrow but almost round" tube (which runs from the seat tube to the rear axle) and see if the included hardware works now, but that's TBD. .
