tl;dr I highly recommend this connector for the MacBook Air/Pro M1 - it transfers all data without (noticeable) flickering, including 4K@ 60 video and gigabit ethernet, and the system report says it's Thunderbolt 3 at 20Gbps. The connector is solid, the magnets are very strong - no false disconnects in the few days I've had them. I left the small connector in my M1 MacBook Pro and bought additional kits so I can (permanently) plug the connectors into home and office dock cables. Makes it easy to disconnect and reconnect my MBP when moving back and forth between home and office. This leaves me with extra computer adapters, but I'm fine with that. By leaving the adapter in the MBP, you should reduce the load on the laptop port and increase its lifespan. There isn't an issue with the connector heating as reported by some others, but it could be because the M1 laptop doesn't draw much power.
