Everything but the composition of the product gets five stars from me. Easy assembly, reliability, good value for money. But this table, like almost all other woods treated with chipboard etc., uses formaldehyde as a binder. Years later, this formaldehyde is released as a gas everywhere, in a process known as outgassing. I have confirmed with the company that this table contains 0.09 ppm formaldehyde. It is usually 0.05 ppm in the standard. Concentrations of 0.1 to 0.5 ppm caused significant eye and nasal irritation. But levels of 0.6 to 0.9 ppm led to eczema and changes in lung function, i.e. damage to the lungs. This is exactly the ppm level that this product uses. To that I say that this is absurd. Chipboard is not big. I would suggest that it is not necessary to have over 0.05ppm. Around; great table. Great quality, great price (affordable, cheap) and great design execution, making it EXTREMELY easy to set up. And I think it is. Formaldehyde is effective as a binder and facilitates mass production of treated wood. This makes it cheap and affordable and not necessarily low quality depending on where you're looking. Solid wood furniture is extremely expensive, much more difficult to mass-produce, and relatively scarce, which is why solid wood nightstands that don't use these toxic substances range from $200 to $800. But if you can afford it and are health conscious, it would be beneficial to buy a solid wood product or one with less formaldehyde. It cannot be said that the quality etc. of this product is bad. Also, before purchasing this product, make sure you understand your level of exposure to formaldehyde. Almost every home that uses wood as a building material uses recycled wood to some extent. Most people are exposed to extreme levels of formaldehyde, which is known to be very toxic to humans, at very high levels, especially if they don't allow gas in the home for around 2-3 years.
