Review on Magnetic Wooden Cutting Vegetables Food Play Toy Set For Kids - Victostar With Basket Included! by Jason Wilson

Revainrating 3 out of 5

UNSAFE FOR TODDLERS: SMALLER THAN EXPECTED, WRONGLY AGE MARKED, INCLUDES SMALL MAGNETS.

I sent this as a gift to my two year old toddler grandson. He has the Melissa and Doug cutting food toy and loves it. The pieces are large and they stick together (prior to being "cut” by the child, via velcro. These veggies and fruits are much much smaller, held together by magnets and the toy pieces once "cut” are dancing the line of being chocking hazards. The toy looks larger in the photos than it actually is.The box, once delivered notes that this is appropriate for a six year old, not a toddler as described in the ebay ad. However, it is hard to know who mislabeled it, the manufacturer or the person who posted the ad on the website, so I would not assume any deliberate misrepresentation.Just this week a story ran in the national news about a child who swallowed a bunch of small magnets. Once ingested magnets can do can seriously damage a child’s body, causing perforations of the intestines. They have to be surgically removed ASAP.The toy set itself is delightful and colorful. For older children it should be a perfectly wonderful and safe play toy. It is just NOT APPROPRIATE FOR TODDLERS.My daughter will be exchanging it.

Pros
  • Encourages imaginative and creative play in children
Cons
  • The set may not be as versatile as other types of play sets
