I have found two major issues with this unit. First, it's not big enough to handle a regular 8-inch chef's knife. Yes, the knife will stick, but part of the blade will protrude past the top of the block. The longer the blade, the more the cutting edge protrudes. Second, the magnets, while fairly strong, are placed too low in the block for best effect. They are at the base rather than closer to the top edge where they would be more useful. Therefore, a knife with a short blade (less than 5 inches) will not hold and can easily shift and fall as if moving a block. Creates a potentially dangerous situation and just sucks that it's difficult to store shorter blades on it.
