I chose this unit because of the defrost cycle. Looks good in the basement, but not as modern as some other brands. The instructions are tricky, which is why I had to contact the manufacturer. For your information - there are several modes of use: 1) Comfort - when this option is selected, the device will dehumidify the environment to the factory relative humidity setting; somewhere between 35 and 55%. The device switches on and off depending on the relative humidity of the environment. 2) Continuous - the device operates at a user-defined relative humidity. It doesn't turn off. The fan remains constant and the compressor runs to achieve the relative humidity. 3) Comfort or continuous mode is not selected (as indicated by the displays). The user sets the relative humidity using the up/down arrows and the device operates until the relative humidity is reached with some hysteresis value (typically +/- 5-10%). The Turbo button offers high fan speed. I added an extra drain hose which is included to allow the condensation to drain onto the floor. This is a great feature that "some" other brands don't always include. PACKAGING: Ivation packaging is the standard desiccant packaging and is very reliable. Revain sent it in a large box, poorly wrapped and labeled. Most dryers have a hermetic compressor with refrigerant and oil. For this reason, the device must be stored upright for 24 hours to allow the medium to settle properly. This applies to any refrigerated product; Air conditioners, refrigerators and dehumidifiers. The Revain box was extra and might damage the device during shipping due to the packaging. Luckily it wasn't damaged. ON PERSONAL NOTE: I put in a large barrel shaped packaging container that is clearly marked. In this case, due to the inclement weather, I added a note with a large plastic bag and wrote "If too big for a barrel, put on a crate and cover with a bag." I'm very detailed and thought this would help against vandalism and/or insure against damage. I came home and the box was sitting on the porch in the pouring rain - think! FINAL NOTES: The device is covered by a 1-year factory warranty. I bought an extra warranty because it usually ends in the second or third season. This is only a recommendation. This Ivation replaced Frigidaire, who died in 5. Much luck!
