I discovered this when I was in my twenties (40 years ago) and was surprised at how well it works. Then, at certain times of the month, no matter how many times I showered or put on deodorant, at the end of the day the pit stunk! This problem went away as I grew up and got away with standard daily deodorant use. I had a similar smelly problem when I was going through menopause! I've learned that body odor is a common side effect of menopause. Big! I was happy to see that Lavilin still exists and is available on Amazon (I used to have to order it in the mail via the back cover ads of fun vegan magazines). It still works great! I only have to apply it once or twice a week right after the shower. It is important to use this on freshly cleared pits. You can't run 3 miles and use it on sweat pits. it will not work. Also, an optional but effective step is the additional preparation of clean dimples before applying Lavilin with a cotton swab with hydrogen peroxide. It kills extra bacteria and makes the waxy Lavilin easier to spread. Then leave it on overnight (it absorbs into the skin). You don't have to reapply for a few days. I recommended it to my daughter when she was hitting puberty and starting to suffer from teenage stink. She's 14 almost 15 now and she swears by it. My son, on the other hand, didn't like putting it on his hair pits and didn't use it (although it worked when he used it). I still have no idea what it works or what the active ingredient is (I checked it once but nothing magical came up), but it works.
