My boy developed dandruff on the lower part of his spine a while ago. It was never itchy so I felt like it was primarily a cosmetic issue. Dry skin only. never mind But I decided to try and fix it after I brushed it one day and noticed how dry the skin was inside the little ball of fur. I did a little research and decided he needed omega-3s. If the omega-3s weren't working, I would ask the vet just to be safe. There are so many options for omega supplements for cats, but I knew my boy would prefer them in treat form. That way I could know that he had received the full dose and accidentally prevented his sister from eating it all. They arrived and I introduced him to one. Swallowed it in seconds. So at least he likes her. I gave his sister half a slice so she wouldn't feel left out. I started giving him a piece in the morning and evening. The girl received 1/2 each time as she showed no signs of bad skin/coat. After a few days, his scales were almost completely gone and he shed less hair. The baby also started shedding less. But I knew I couldn't afford to give them both 2 treats a day for the rest of their lives. So I just cut off a piece from him and 1/2 from her in the evening. It has been over a month now and his scales have not returned and they are both shedding MUCH less. Even cleaning seems less necessary (but I do it anyway). She has always been as energetic as possible but the boy seems to be very energetic now which is fantastic considering he is 8 years old now.
