About half of straws either pop out of the package or pop when you pull on the straw. In terms of packaging, I see complaints that they come in a ziplock bag. This is actually a plus for me compared to other straws that come in a flimsy pouch that breaks easily. I suspect some people prefer wrapped straws, provided the box is filled by a machine rather than a person (although there's no guarantee that's the case). If you're concerned about someone touching the straw, I'd recommend buying individually wrapped straws instead. All in all I love the length and colors of the straws and the pretty ziplock pouch they come in, but I don't get to use them much.
