order received immediately. I bought two of these and wanted to give one as a gift. However, when I removed the plastic from the scraper, it gave off a very unpleasant smell. I can only describe the smell as the smell I experienced at our local zoo, like old animal poop. I figured I couldn't smell *that* smell, of course, but my husband agreed that it smelled like feces (only he used a much more descriptive word). I've tried putting it in the hot sun for a day but that only made it worse so I know it's not a chemical smell that the sun can usually reduce. I didn't open the second one because I didn't want the house to smell any more. So sad to have to throw them away as the scratching post seemed well put together and was the perfect size for our cats. The smell is just too gross to keep in our house.
