Review on Enhanced Mortise and Tenon Jig - Precision Drill Template Set with Hollow Chisel Bit Attachment by Pius Aponte

Extremely poor quality, total disappointment

After watching a few videos and forum comments I gave this lure a try. But to be honest it was the biggest disappointment I have experienced in years. I could build a device ten times more accurate for a fraction of the cost. 1) A crude quarter inch thickness gauge is utterly useless as none of the commercially available timber has an EXACT quarter, for example 4/4 timber is usually 15/16 inch not 1.0 inch. Consequently, all spikes and grooves are off-center! 2) Clamp screws are a bad joke at best. Right out of the box 2 of the 4 terminal screws were over tightened, half bent and on tightening they were close to snapping the threads. Even using cotter pins to fix the clamp strut is chewing gum! The company calls it "a tool built to the highest standards," what a joke. Because of this, you can't apply the clamping force of the bracket to the wood to hold it in place, making the entire bracket redundant. 3) The optional square bracket is more than 6 degrees out of the square (84 degrees). How can you imagine making precise mortise and tenon connections with a tool so far away? 4) Center insert moves approximately 1/8 inch. Good luck finding the true center. Summary: If you are serious about making accurate and neat mortice spigots, stay away from "toys" and either use the more expensive but more accurate mortice spigot mounts (Lei., Festt.), build your own, buy them, or decide Choose a horizontal router table that gives you the precision you need.
