These amplifiers are required if you plan to run more than 2 15ft LED strips with the included power supply. Supernight Kit power supplies just can't provide enough power for 3 sticks and will short out. So if you want to run more than 2 bands, you absolutely need them. I know it sucks to buy extra stuff for only 3 strips instead of 2 but you have to do it. I bought 2 of these and ran 6 bands (using the 3 included power supplies) at full brightness with no issues. Simply connect the included power supply to the amplifier to turn it on. They worked so well I bought 4 more to use next Christmas, love these things they work great.
