These lanterns are perfect for our basement, where we rarely go (but when we do we usually have a lot of things we carry there). They are motion sensitive and turn off after about 30 seconds of immobility. Best of all, they are amazingly bright and are great for lighting up a room instantly, even before you enter the room. Open the door, the light comes on before the door opens even an inch. So far I've lined up two of these and placed them in strategic locations to light up our server room and the path to the rest of the basement. But I don't want to install more because each uses four AAA batteries. Since I like to use Ultimate Lithium batteries, this can get expensive. Sixteen batteries cost almost more than these lamps. Before I install the last two light bars I'll see how long the batteries in the first two last. But for these sturdy lights, well-crafted from aluminum and built to last, it's probably worth buying a few more batteries. The light never stays on very long so I would expect a battery issue to be irrelevant. Aside from the fact that it's not really the manufacturer's fault, I love these cabinet lights and would highly recommend them.
