I've worn several of these shirts all summer while working in the garden and just going for walks and I've managed to avoid sunburn all the time without sunscreen . I have been very honestly stripped and sunburned in a hoodie in 30 minutes on a cloudy day in the past, but they were able to protect my back from the sun for hours at maximum sun exposure. I was very skeptical at first, but they really work. The only complaints I have is that the hood could be a bit longer to cover more of the face and the thumb holes in the sleeves are for those with short arms. than mine, but in general I want to buy a few more.
