Faulty design, won't slice thin meat properly

I bought this product thinking I could slice flank steak for beef with oyster sauce and chicken breast for kung pao chicken (although I thought this last one dream it didn't come true, they're kinda small). There is a 1/4 inch gap between the retractable food platform and the blade plane. When I'm trying to slice or fold a flank steak into a gap that's the same width you chose to slice plus a 1/4 inch gap between the platform and the blade. The platform has to slide forward to almost touch the blade and be parallel to the blade, but no, there is a big gap even when the slicer is at 0mm or 0in. So this thing will probably slice carrots (if you cut it halfway the platform is very small) and other hard stuff, but that gap will drop anything soft into the gap. The design is also flawed in terms of how the food is held in place. The manufacturer provides a plastic pusher that you use to push (and hold) the food against the wall in front of the blade while moving the platform toward the blade to slice the meat. However, nothing is designed to keep meat or food DOWN. I end up holding it with my fingers and risk cutting them off. What I was hoping for in a slicer actually made slicing meat for Middle Eastern dishes more difficult, not easier. I end up with Shredded Beef, not sliced beef, that works so badly. Wasted money and time.

Pros
  • Easy to use
Cons
  • Infinitely sluggish
