Review on MERKUR MK 70C Adjustable Double Safety by John Ferguson

Revainrating 5 out of 5

A detailed comparison of Merkur and Parker razors

My hair is curly. Because my beard is very thick in some places and quite thin in others, and also because I have sensitive skin, it was impossible to shave with a cartridge razor without warts. I switched to a safety razor ten years ago; During this time I have actively used 4 different razors. Contrary to what many reviewers claim, there are few important factors to consider when choosing a safety razor: A) blade protrusion, angle and spacing; B) the weight and shape of the handle; c) longevity. First, let me talk about other possibilities. 1) Reviewers complain that the Futur is slippery because the handle has no notches, but that's ridiculous - it's as slippery as any other nickel-plated razor of the same weight. 2) Reviewers complain that the turning mechanism is unsafe - anyone with common sense should figure out how to hold a razor while turning the knob to adjust the blade without cutting themselves. 3) Reviewers complain that the razor's top bar is too high for them to shave under their noses, but again, common sense dictates that people with flat noses: corner of the lip, pull down on the upper lip, before making a pass with the grit allows for a proper shave of the area. Finally, 4) reviewers complain that the blade is exposed for too long during replacement, but again, any normal adult should be able to handle a double-edged razor blade without cutting themselves. I have been shaving my face and head several times a week with Futur in and against the hair growth for several months now and have never cut myself. ) and Future (iv), and Parker Long Handle Super Heavy (iii).i) Is the least aggressive of the four. The blade is so slightly open, and it's at such a shallow angle, with so little space between the guards, and it's so light, I can't get a close shave without applying pressure or repeated pressure. passes. In any case, this razor may irritate someone with a moderate to thick beard. It's a great travel candidate though, as the 3 pieces mean it falls apart flat. ii) Is second least aggressive. I get a good shave after one against the fibers and one against the fibers and a very close shave after the second against the fibers. However, it's still light enough that I have to put pressure on the thicker parts of my beard. This is the razor I would recommend for most beginner wet razors. iii) This is the most aggressive fixed blade safety razor. It's heavy enough that absolutely no extra pressure is required, and the razor delivers a fairly close shave after one pass against and against the fibers. I use this shaver when I have shaved in the last 36 hours or when I travel. The construction shows that it is extremely durable compared to the Futur. iv) This adjustable razor has a blade angle ii) at setting 1 and iii) at setting 3; At setting 6 it's significantly more aggressive than anything else I've tried. I use this shaver whenever my head or beard grows over 36 hours - first pass on direction 6, second pass on direction 3 which gives a pretty close shave even if I have a week of beard/hair growth. The third pass against the direction of hair growth at level 6 ensures an extremely close shave. In addition, the large distance between the guards allows you to cut growths in just a few passes in one go throughout the week, because, unlike other razors, the cut hairs do not clog the space between the blade and the guards. This is the only true safety razor (ie a fixed blade razor with top and bottom guards) that I have tried on these occasions and for that reason I would highly recommend it to anyone who rarely shaves their face or head. However, the mechanism that holds the top guard in place, thereby locking the razor blade, appears to be considerably less robust than any other mechanism I've seen: the inward and downward pressure of two thin metal rods is all that the top Holds rod in place. , as opposed to one large (i and ii) or two medium (iii) screws. For this reason, and also because of its weight, it is the least impact-resistant razor. I would not travel with him. For those of you considering Merkur Progress, just saying if you have a medium beard or sensitive skin, Futur is probably your best bet. The Progress is even more aggressive than the Futur, making it impossible to emulate a short two-component stick even at the lowest settings. For those of you considering the Parker option, be aware that you may need to swap out the one you received for a new one - there seems to be an issue with the blade seating unevenly and unreliably when You get a lemon, giving a great performance Razor unusable. A good Parker variant is probably comparable to the future tense, if not better. But both have their own shelf life/crafting/delivery issues.

  • Shaving and hair removal
