I bought this DVD player and recorder to enjoy on my new Samsung HD LA32R81B LCD TV. I have a huge collection of standard DVDs. So I figured the ideal way to watch them in high resolution would be to upscale a standard 480i image to a higher one. Thanks to this machine, it can be converted to 576p, 720p or 1080i. I have a choice between the latter two, and I found 720p good enough for action movies with lots of movement, while 1080i is great for regular movies and concerts. The picture becomes incredible. The player certainly won't play HD discs, but it's worth waiting until the HD vs Blue Ray dilemma is resolved. Speaking of the recorder, it's so easy to use, especially with Samsung's exclusive EZ feature that initializes the recorded disc, finalizes it, and creates DVD chapters. You can choose from many recording speeds (EX is the best quality and SP is the best for perfect image quality and sufficient recording time). The timer for the recording can also be set at will and the recording can be stopped at any time. And when only 30% of the recording time has elapsed, the tool itself finishes the job and finalizes the disc. Personally, I use blank DVD-R discs with no problems. To record, all you need to do is connect an external device to the output of the AV cable. to the AV2 input on the front of the recorder, making sure to select the AV2 input with the remote control until the picture appears on the TV. What's really nice is the free HD cable that comes with the tool. All you have to do is connect it to a compatible TV and you'll get the best picture and sound quality.
