Samsung DVD R155 Tunerless DVD Recorder Review

I have already 5 months, all hot summer, does not overheat and does not die. Good picture quality and features. Easy to use. I have never read the instruction manual. So far it has recorded and played every DVD I've put in. It has a pause button that actually works as it should and outperforms Sony's recorders with no or limited pause. Too bad it doesn't burn DVD+ media like most recorders and VCD/SVCD for short clips and projects. Update: It's 2011 and it still works fine.

Overall this is a good value recorder. I was absolutely amazed by the device that allows me to rip my favorite shows via cable (via S-Video input) and play them with an HDMI signal on my HDTV. The remote covers everything, EZ menus and settings to understand and adjust. . I strongly recommend users to buy high quality blank media like Verbatim, TDK, Sony and Panasonic discs. I bought this DVD player and recorder to enjoy on my new Samsung HD LA32R81B LCD TV. I have a huge collection of standard DVDs. So I figured the ideal way to watch them in high resolution would be to upscale a standard 480i image to a higher one. Thanks to this machine, it can be converted to 576p, 720p or 1080i.
