About 3 years have passed. I use it all the time in my woodworking workshop. Never had a problem with it. Works smoothly, zeros and holds zero. I've noticed that the zero shifts a little from time to time, let's say half the arrow width. I read in the company description above that the accuracy is +/- 0.001. So if I see it's not zero, that tiny bit is probably 0.001. So mine is exactly as described. The metal isn't fancy, but it's smooth and well finished. Everything fits and works well. I am an avid woodworker. I use it for thicknessing, some gouging, measuring hole or groove depth, groove width, inside measurements, etc. The dial is easy to read and includes the fractions I use. So no math. Fractional characters are in 64s, you can also easily read between characters up to 128. When I shorten the joint to 128 inches you will find that this is indeed a very good day in the shop! In fact, if you want to buy one with very tight tolerances for mating metal parts or construction machinery, then you can increase the price range. That's great for the tree, the tree will probably move to 128 on a wet day anyway. I prefer a dial over a digital one. I've read that the digital can round off a measurement if it's between digits, that it's draining power when it's off, so draining the batteries. The dial allows you to see the measurement when it falls between the numbers or marks, so I know if further movement of the plane will get it where I want it. I don't think you can buy more precision in this price range. To work with wood I don't know why you need expensive precision since the wood will move through its fibers in small increments overnight just lying in your warehouse. Many joiners work down to 32 inches. So being able to see 128 is a very close measure of wood products.
