The stock cooler on my i7-8700 bothered me as the fan noise seemed noticeable. I didn't want to have a big project where I take the motherboard out of the case or work with a big tower cooler that I have no experience with. So this cooler seemed to meet all the requirements I wanted. Since it uses Intel pins I didn't have to remove the motherboard and stock cooler and replace it with this one in about 10 minutes. In terms of performance, it's definitely quieter than the stock cooler for my workload. which was my main reason for buying it, but it's not entirely silent. In fact, it's pretty quiet at factory speeds. Because of the ease of installation and the noticeable difference in fan noise, I'm happy with this purchase.
