Review on High-Quality USB C Charger Power Adapter for HP Spectre x360 13-AE015DX & Dell LA90PM170 0TDK33 TDK33 Type C Laptops by Jason Staggs

Revainrating 2 out of 5

I would avoid this adapter and look elsewhere. Read the ISSUE below.

90W/65W USB-C Charger Power Adapter for HP Specter x360. Got the charger and immediately tested the outputs with a USB-C riser and a Fluke DMM. 5VDC - OK. 20VDC - DEAD! All four VBUS points (20 VDC) tested. I read in other reviews that they received a bad charger. However, I took the risk. You will never know. But for less than $25, you get what you pay for. On the plus side, the adapter looked good on the outside. As a process engineer for electronics assembly, I was impressed. However, this does not compensate for the "brick" appearance of this product. Spend a few bucks more for a reliable adapter. I'll spend about $50 on a charger available from Revain with good reviews. Edit: When I received this adapter it was right out of the box and cold. I used it for 15 minutes. It did not work. A few hours later, guided by my intuition, I tried again. It worked! Having worked in electronics for over 40 years, I know that some electronic components fail at high or low temperatures. As a rule, these are "economy" components. So I put the adapter in the garage overnight where it was 25°F and immediately tried again the next morning. This failed again. I let it warm up for five hours, it worked. So, it's a bad component or intermittent soldering. Since I will always use it indoors, I'll keep it. Too much hassle to return it. Also, I need my HP laptop now. If it doesn't work out in the future, I'll do the surgery. I'm hesitant to up the rating to a two ☆ as it works at average ambient temperatures. Edit #2: Have been using this adapter for a few weeks now. He continues to work flawlessly - indoors. But 99.9% will use it indoors. I would, like I did, put it through a "cold" test just in case you're traveling in a cold climate and might need to use it in the cold. My HP Specter x360 knew it wasn't an OEM charger and a popup message told me so. Nevertheless, I'm increasing my rating to 3 stars. Much luck.
