I tried this on the recommendation of someone who I think is knowledgeable about solar and wind technology. Indeed, this device does a great job when it comes to returning and storing some batteries. But beware radio amateurs, mine puts out terrible RF interference in the HF part of the spectrum, especially in the 3,600-3,999kHz band (75/80m bands). Even though I use it in my backup power supply I just figured I couldn't turn it on while the radio was playing. With that in mind, I'm pretty sure this will also interfere with the use of SWLs (shortwave listeners), at least in the HF end of the spectrum. I haven't tried it on the VHF/UHF band because nowadays it's mostly FM and often used digitally, I prefer SSB operation even on VHF. Digital modes like PSK don't seem to affect this much, but if you listen there's not much to filter out. While I gave the unit 5 stars for price and performance, the key is that it performs horribly when listening to amateur or shortwave radio. Users just need to know that I guess. I also think the value is unbeatable.
