Aircom S6 cools my AV receiver perfectly. My last three surround receivers were Denon and none of them have failed. And that's partly because I've either always made sure they're well-ventilated, or I've installed a "cupcake fan" on them (the thin, DC-powered fan you find in desktop computers). I would run the fan at a lower voltage so it spins slower and thus is virtually silent at 6ft. My 4k capable Denon receiver has fans but they have never heard them work in daily use and the unit gets warm (when I tried it for a day without a fan). This is because the cabinet I had to switch to has less top clearance than ideal. I had a third cupcake fan because they usually last about 5 years. And I was literally about to pull the trigger on the fourth fan because the third was starting to show its age and get louder. It was then that a friend introduced me to the Aircom cooler series (surprised I wasn't familiar as I follow A/V gear!). He just bought one for himself and his hot amp and is very happy with it. And then I find out that another friend recently bought the same one for his new Marantz 4K receiver. Both were very happy with it. (One has S6, the other has older models with LCD). Both said they wish the device was a little quieter on the lowest settings, but they can live with that. When choosing the right model for me, I decided that I didn't need anything fancy, just simple cooling was enough. That's why I chose the S6. As you may already know, the S6 is one of Aircom's coolers that draws air in from the bottom and blows it out from the back. This is what you want if you have limited clearance above the receiver, or if you have a more enclosed case (because a model that blows up doesn't push hot air out of the case, just circulates it). I suspect that for most people, rear bladder models are the best choice. I keep my S6 in auto/smart mode and at its lowest speed and it keeps my receiver slightly warm which is what I want. I would never use higher speeds as they are too loud (only for the control room/toilet anyway). I agree with my friends that the S6 could be quieter on the lowest settings. Unfortunately, it is somewhat audible in the quietest passages. But so far it has only been noticeable in two cases. But that audibility is one of the reasons I'm giving the Aircom S6 four stars instead of five. If it was really quiet at 6 feet I'd happily give it a full five stars. I hope this product will last a long time. I hope it lasts at least 5 years without getting louder. If not, I'll go back to the cupcake fan (that's part of the price). Another reason I can't give Aircom's product five stars is that the power connector on the back is easy to unplug if you're working with other cables in your A/V system (or you have an adventurous animal, that refuses to stay away from your cables). ). There needs to be some way to secure the connector, or at least a cable clamp that will hold the cable securely when pulled. I ended up tying the cable to one of the straps on the back of the device. AC Infinity should be Gen. 2 from their product line, which will be even quieter and have means of securing the power cord or plug. Then you have a 5 star product.
