"Resin" I thought it was a tough plastic, but it looks like brittle ceramic, maybe with an extra layer of plastic or something. We were looking for something our 3 year old wouldn't destroy by dropping it on the stone floor. But the most interesting thing is that it doesn't have a hole to pull out the money - you have to pry it open to get the money out. On the one hand, it's nice to know that kids won't be able to get money, play with it and lose it, or put it in their mouth and choke on it, but on the other hand, kids want to be able to see how much money they have saved and do not want to ruin their piggy bank and make it unusable. I return to buy a rubber or plastic jar with a stopper.
