Review on Goo Gone Cleaner Cleans Cooking by Doug Daniels

My confidence in Goo Gone products has decreased

I have been buying and using Goo Gone products for many years and have generally been with satisfied with the results. I purchased this product, not the cleaner sold by Weber, to repair my 14 year old Weber Genesis E-300 grill. The outside of the grill is still beautiful after all these years of use (see photo) and I bought new stainless steel grates to replace the old cast iron grates, but the inside was a mess, with lots of grease on the lid and the inside of the grill firebox . This product didn't do the job. I removed the hood from the grill and spent a lot of time processing it according to the instructions. The sprayer didn't impress me as it was impossible to cover the entire surface with a well-distributed layer of foam and it takes multiple trigger pulls to spread the foam (unevenly) over a large surface area. In my opinion, an aerosol product (e.g. oven cleaner) is better. The instructions say to spray and leave for a few minutes (I waited about 20 minutes), then wipe the product off with a soft cloth and finally rinse the treated surface with water. I did it once and leaked. I wasn't that impressed that I decided to try again, only this time I washed it off with a pressure washer. I did this on the inside of the hood and the top of the firebox. Anyone who says their grill looks like new knows more than I do. The result I got wasn't worth the effort. Overall I gave it one star for removing some of the surface grease, but I think even that is generous.

Pros
  • Works - burnt food, debris, charcoal and grease, do not use on aluminum or faux stainless steel
Cons
  • Expensive
