Review on 🌻 Sunlite SL24/Y 24W Spiral CFL Light Bulb, Yellow Bug Light, Medium Base (100W Incandescent Equivalent) by Brooke Parker

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Slightly less power than advertised but works fine

I was a little disappointed with the amount of light at first, but I did some measurements and found that the eye is not good at judging light in a dark room. My previous 13 watt bug lamp consumed 13 watts of active power and delivered 83 lux on one meter. The actual power consumption of these lamps was 23 watts, not the declared 24, but that's okay. In both cases, I let the lamps warm up for five minutes before measuring. These lamps produced 141 lux at a meter, or about as much as the lamp they replaced. When I placed the order I wondered if I had overdone it and set the street on fire like Broadway. My fears were premature. Two bulbs on either side of the door illuminate the area better than 13-watt bulbs, but sunglasses are absolutely unnecessary. I ordered 5 of these pears, they are all the same color and no longer stand out. as random bugs, that's how they do their job. They have no flaws that I can find and they appear to have been built well. No dangling parts or foreign impacts. They use a T6 tube and a large base, so they are NOT compact new technology CFLs that are almost the size of a lightbulb. They are not designed for limited space, but placing them in a regular street light with free space shouldn't be a problem. I haven't had those 24 hours yet, but my previous experience with CFLs (I was an early user - I've been using CFLs for many years) is that if they last 5 minutes they will at least last their rated life. In fact, I have a 13 watt white CFL that we use as a night light that has been on 24/7 for the past 12 years, so I'm generally happy that the CFLs are generally living up to their promised lifespans. I've seen them work in cold weather now, 20 degrees Fahrenheit, which is the coldest it's ever been in this part of the country, and I'm quite happy with how they're performing. 2 minutes. I have old CFL emitters that take about 15 minutes to reach full brightness at this temperature so I find it impressive.

Pros
  • Excellent construction
Cons
  • Slightly wrinkled
