Big Oil Starter Kit

I love Gamblin colors and this is a great starter kit for the price. If I were to create my own set I would add phthalo blue instead of phthalo green for better color mixing ability. The tubes are a standard size so you can buy a large tube of white anywhere, permalba white mixes well with these colors. If I were to make a kit I would also include a tube of Galkyd or Gamblin solvent free gel which is just great - it's a great medium which allows the paints to dry much faster. If you're bothered by slow-drying oils and want a safer alternative to turpentine, you should definitely get a tube. Gamblin oils are high quality, so it's hard to go wrong with any kit, color or medium. They work well with Winsor & Newton Professional and Winton oils. Yellow and red are both cadmium colors which means you should be careful with them for your health, but then again they are true colors and not just shades so buying them individually would be quite expensive.
