MityVac in combination with Motive Power Bleeder - great setup

This report shows how I have used MityVac in combination with Motive Power Bleeder to get the job done with brake fluid and be able to cover emergencies handle that require vacuum pressure. It works out. Bleeding the brakes and changing brake fluid just got easier for one person. I have not used the Motive Power Bleeder reservoir to store brake fluid. Instead I used the brake fluid reservoir as the fluid source and this kept the power bleeder bottle clean. If you do it this way you have to be careful to fill the brake fluid reservoir before each wheel so you don't accidentally drain the master cylinder and put air in it like I did when I did the last wheel closest to the master cylinder (oops). When working on the next tire you will need to keep a close eye on the fluid level in the reservoir as it will empty faster than when working with other lines (rear passenger side flows slower because it is the longest line and front driver side flows fastest for the shortest line ). One tip to help seal your master cylinder reservoir cap better is to apply a light coat of silicone grease to the rubber washer if necessary (silicone gets along with rubber, but petroleum-based grease does not). I solved the problem of random emptying. master cylinder and was able (I prepared this in advance just in case) to bleed all the air out of the master cylinder without disconnecting the brake lines: 1. The tool used is a Mityvac MV8510 Silverline Elite2 hand pump. The rubber stopper for the brake fluid reservoir was a strong 1-1/8 inch diameter rubber stopper (the size the 2010 Dodge Dakota accepts is equivalent to a #6 or #6.5 lab stopper). I drilled a small hole for the hose connection. You need a stopper that fits your vehicle.3. Connect the hose from the MityVac fitting to the stopper fitting.4. Apply a thin coat of silicone grease to the end of the plug and insert the plug into the master cylinder reservoir opening. You may need to hold the cork in place with hand pressure until a vacuum is created, depending on how hard/soft the cork is.5. Apply 15 to 20 psi vacuum with the MityVaC until all air is evacuated. You'll know when all the air is evacuated when the gauge holds the vacuum without falling. The gauge can slowly fall off if the gaskets aren't tight against the notches, and if you have leaky connections you can use sealant to make them airtight. As the air bubbles in the master cylinder are expelled by the vacuum, the gauge "pops" to a lower vacuum, requiring further manual bleeding. All air is out. test brakes. Another sovereign braking – done. With a Motive Power Bleeder and a Mityvac MV8510 Silverline Elite hand pump (just in case), you can make your brake fluid job easy and clean while keeping your gear clean.
