Poor workmanship destroyed this product

I bought this item in early June 2019. In mid-October I discovered I only had one magnetic paperweight (a month before the return window) and I kicked myself for not returning it sooner. I will clarify. I have used this product in three vehicles: the latest Toyota Camry, the later Toyota Tundra and the early 2000's Ford. During installation I found that the screw base on the back of the mount was difficult to attach as there wasn't enough room to put my hand behind the platform. Also, the cable gets in the way so you're hoping you can just unplug it, but once installed you can't reconnect the cable. Micro USB is a direct connection and a 90* fit would be much better as the cable now goes into the vent (I'll come back to micro USB input issues). Its weight alone tilts the vents on all three of the above vents, even when the phone isn't plugged in yet! I still liked it and used it despite these problems. The magnetic plate on the back of the phone was easy to install and works quite well. If you hit a bump or corner hard HE FALLS OFF which sucks. I would have liked a much stronger mount as picking the phone off the floor isn't fun. After the first month I noticed that I was losing strength. Upon inspection, it was found that the cable had been damaged due to the cable coming straight out of the back of the bracket and colliding with the vent. No problem, I'll swap out the USB cable and carry on. After a few weeks I lose connection again so I see that the cable is damaged again where it enters the base. On wire #3. A few weeks later and I lose contact. I look into the base plate and now one of the pins is bent where the micro USB connector plugs into the base over the top. Overall cool concept, works a little, poor mount design, ok suction, hope your town has super smooth roads for it to stay, mess up the cables, isn't worth the money or more than one star.

Pros
  • Easy installation
Cons
  • There are more interesting options.
