I saw another review where this "tent" was used as a birthing/nest place for her cat and her kittens and decided to use it in my similar situation to try. This is the perfect spot for a cat that is in labor (if the cat chooses this spot) or that has recently given birth to kittens and needs a place to eat. My cat did NOT choose this place to give birth, she preferred the tiny box she chose before we set up this tent. My advice: buy it in advance so your cat has time to choose it as a place of birth. If you buy it too close to birth, it won't have time to get used to it or learn it. I found and bought it about 2 days before birth and by then it was too late, she was already searching the house and scratching the boxes inside to find another suitable nest. Another tip: you can turn this tent on its side so that the wide side wall faces the ceiling and the narrower side wall is open. This creates the illusion of an open drawer so you can easily look down to see the kittens without disturbing them too much while the mother cat can sneak through the open side panel. My cat didn't like the open wide sidebar and my preoccupation with the kittens so she decided to accidentally move the kittens to the small cat ottoman I bought. So I closed the wide side panel and opened the small side panel and now it looks like a cave/short tunnel. She took it very well and is now staying there with the kittens. This gives her more privacy and more space to stretch out (she's a long Siamese cat) and a place to feed her kittens rather than an ottoman or tent with both panels open. I recommend this product for your cat mom and/or small kittens. I think up to 4 weeks should be good otherwise they start climbing. This makes room for a cat with 6+ newborn kittens. It offers customization options as you can open one or both panels and rotate to either side to suit your cat's privacy or access needs. If you have it upside down you can pull up the wide panel a bit to add height/guard rails for stray kittens who aren't good climbers yet but are starting to stick their heads out. It's easy to insert (be careful as it opens quickly due to the metal wiring / is mostly spring loaded) and light enough to slip back into the pocket it came in (just twist it down in a whirl , by pushing off the long top and securing it with your feet until you grab it together). This includes some toys. I recommend putting a towel in instead of a rug or blanket as the towels will hold their shape better and won't move while the kittens squirm. The blanket included can be a good picnic blanket for lunch. Very happy with this purchase, bought 2 (of this brand and another) and kept both but this brand is definitely the better of the two. A must have for your mother cat and newborn kittens!
