We used to have a plastic baking mat but it ripped because it didn't always stick to the countertop like we had hoped. This sticks directly to the worktop and does not move. There is a learning curve between the plastic mat and this one because the plastic scraper slides over the plastic mat, but it takes less pressure and the right angle to pry the dough off it. It was a short learning curve and everything about this mat makes it easy to work with. What's also great is that it's easy to clean and much easier to store away than the plastic mat we had because it folds up without damaging it.
