Review on Uniden R1 Extreme Detector Degree by James Gregg

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Works as advertised; The hype is real!

Bought this before a 1500 mile trip hoping it would work on its own. And so it was; 3 successful alerts in Ka-band with sufficient alert. I've already bought a Valentine One from a friend and I'm not comfortable with that selection; However, I missed the arrows. It was good. I ended up turning off the X and K bands since I'm in California and these are almost entirely false alarms unless you're in Orange County (in which case turn the K band back on). It's eerily quiet now (I'm used to V1's constant false alarms and need to turn it off). Speaking of which, auto-mute is awesome. Each detector should come with this as standard. This is a highly customizable radar and I love it. Vortex Radar on Youtube has fantastic tutorials and reviews on these things. Check out his video! On my commute to work I have an area that keeps showing false Ka-band alerts and I wish I could get an R3 for it - but I don't think it's worth $100. I can look at the display, see that the frequency is the same as always, and follow my happy ride. The attachment system is fantastic. The double suction cup is great, just bend it to get the tilt right. I connected mine to my car using a standard RJ11 phone cord. I've never received a laser alert so I'm not entirely sure if it works or if the police don't use a laser nearby. The only downside to this radar that I can recall is the fact that many cars respond incorrectly to the K-band - so much so that I turned off the K-band. Only on Ka and Laser is this thing so eerily quiet that I cringe every time it makes a noise because it's almost certainly legal. If you have doubts about this radar, go for it! You will not be disappointed. There's a lot to choose from, it's inexpensive, and it's really customizable. It pays off the first time without a ticket.
