Review on Optimized Cooling Performance for NVMe M.2 SSDs with Powerful 20mm Fan Heat-Sinks by Darius Carraway

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Installed a month ago and so far so good

I got "high" temperature readings on Samsung Magician with my uncooled 960 EVO so I decided to find a cooling solution. After installation, I observe a temperature drop of 5-10 degrees Celsius when idling. It holds that temperature fairly well, although I haven't done any thorough data transfer to get it hot other than benchmarking the drive. It's installed in an ASRock Taichi X370 mobile board, and the M.2 slot I used was too close to the PCI Express 3.0 x16 slot, so I had to cut the tab off the bracket on one side to fit it; never mind. I ran out of fan control connectors so decided on this cooler that just plugs into a SATA connector for power as I have a lot of them. It just always works. I liked that this cooler has heat dissipation pads on both sides, although I don't know how much heat is actually transferred from the bottom to the heatsink.

Pros
  • Easy install
Cons
  • Makes me nervous
