Kept in the box and still scratches slightly.
I have a bag in the front of my Yorkie's car seat. I kept them in the box until needed. Banjos like to wear them in bright sunshine, but they're easy to change and often need to be retuned. I'm not sure about the processing, but with simple handling they scratch very easily. He has a more expensive pair that we got from the pet store and they cost a few dollars more. :)
