Ammonia strips, not so good

I bought these for my axolotl aquarium. The pads keep falling off, or are already falling off. When I received this item it looked like it was already open which was odd. If you do a test and the color changes, it's very uneven on the pad and doesn't match any of the squares on the chart. From time to time I get one that seems to work (very rarely) but even then I have to doubt the accuracy because of the integer.
