This is my fourth digital camera and this Sony W290 is by far the best I have ever owned. It starts up quickly, processes shots quickly, and charges the flash faster than any other camera I've used before. The quality of the pictures just surprised me. I have 2 35mm SLRs that I use when I want to be artistic and am very picky about pictures. What surprises me the most about this camera is that the intelligent picture settings are phenomenal. I've taken photos directly in sunlight, sunsets, dark rooms, neon lights, outdoors, etc., and the camera's ability to quickly and correctly adjust ISO, aperture, speed, etc. to create a beautiful image is second to none. In fact, I think this is the first camera to tweak the environmental settings even better than me by manually overriding the settings. In fact, now I almost always leave it on the car, take pictures without worrying about anything, and then it's nice to admire what a good picture I got. Steady Shot works well. Focus is amazing. And the LCD on the back of the camera is huge given the camera's small size. If there's one complaint, the red-eye notification could be better optimized. While the red-eye reduction works great on its own, the camera's pre-flash is very similar to an actual photo flash and confuses subjects in the frame into thinking I've already taken the picture and they start looking away. I try to get in the habit of telling them the flash can "flash twice" to get them to stay put. However, because red-eye reduction is automatic, it doesn't always work, which is even more confusing. I like the blinking flash better than the cameras I've used in the past. But still I am very satisfied with the quality of the photos and the user interface of the camera. Again, this is the best compact camera I've ever had and I genuinely think you can't go wrong with it. To be honest I find it the best of its kind at the moment, especially since I think the price is reasonable.
