1987 Four Winns 3L Mercruiser will not start

My 26 year old Four Winn will not start this year. After fiddling around with new points etc. I ordered a Sierra electronics rebuild kit and P/N 40011 1.5 ohm flamethrower coil. After installing these parts, the starter simply knocks, the engine runs better than when new. Do yourself a favor, install this on your boat!
