Review on 🏍️ Nelson-Rigg CL-890 Mini Expandable Sport Saddlebags in Black by Travis Garron

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Compact but roomy

These bags are installed on my 2021 Triumph Bonneville Speedmaster. I already have a swingarm bag and a small bag on the back of the bike; I prefer to ride them around town because they are retro and minimal to match the style of the bike. My goal was to find bags that I can easily put on and take off and that are enough for a 2-3 day trip. Also, I didn't want the bulky pockets to hang too low and touch my swing arm pocket. Because I prefer a clean look, I wanted something that could be quickly removed without the need for unsightly saddlebag brackets. The Nelson Rigg CL-890 Mini Expandable Sports Case is what you need. I was pleasantly surprised that when expanded, one pocket was large enough to fit in my large leather jacket with all its armor. The expandable size gives you 20 liters of space and that convinced me. And yet the pockets are very compact with the expandable zipper closed, which looks nice on a classic bike like the Speedmaster. Installation was easy but I chose to reverse the installation direction from what I saw in the photos. I put the tapered side towards the front of the bike because it gives good clearance for my swingarm bag. And the length of the bag means more than an inch from the back of the bag to the turn signals. (They're mounted on a Corbin double seat, so I don't know how it fits the stock Triumph rear seat, which isn't as wide.) My only issue is the length of the tie straps. They're not long enough to reach the footpegs, although I found another attachment point. These straps need to be twice as long to fit more bikes. But that wasn't enough for me to lower my rating to 4 stars. Finally, the fabric feels durable and the double-zip top opening is a nice touch. In addition, a protective pad on the back protects the shiny parts and the paint on the fender from abrasion. I usually avoid rain, but just in case I sprayed the entire fabric with a water-repellent spray. For $$ this is the best deal and most versatile compact bags I could find.
