Restoration of a 1991 KX 125

So here it is. The Excel brand is amazing. This is a great looking product with cutting edge design and innovation. The only problem I think is the price but you get what you pay for so I'd rather swap the rim once and spend a little more on parts and then have to do it again on the road because the rim is warped or slightly bent. Much of the price comes from the fact that in order to use your rim you must purchase the appropriate set of Excel spokes for your application (nipples and spokes are wider than stock). Other than that, I have no regrets. Anyone who has laced a wheel and spent time adjusting it knows how time consuming it is. I went a step further and first painted the bushings with high gloss black enamel paint and then baked them at 200° for an hour as directed on the tin to seal them and make them chemical and weather resistant. The end result is a cool wheel that immediately catches the eye.

Pros
  • Precision formed and blind seam welded using modern robotics
Cons
  • High price
