To be honest it took as long as the pull. Also, it looked pretty awful on the first try (like I just used scissors). However, after a few uses, my gelding's mane looks beautiful and looks like it's about to be pulled. It doesn't thin out the mane like pulling (this can be a plus or a minus depending on your goal). This comb is very comfortable for both me and my horse, hands no longer hurt after pulling! I would say if you have a crazy unruly messy mane then plucking would be the best option. But it's a great option if you have the time and stamina to regularly groom your horses' manes.
