Review on Crimper Stripper Cutter Pass Thru Connectors by Sean Maples

Almost a one hit wonder

When I was looking for a replacement wire stripper/crimper I was very impressed with the design of this tool. I liked the compact design and the blade that can cut the wires when crimping. I used it once for 12 runs and it did the job perfectly. Not great, just good, but still better than what I've used before. On first use the blade was great for stripping Cat 6 wire. I used it a week later and the blade barely touched the cord. I tried lowering the blade but the screw came loose slightly and I used the correct screwdriver. The screw is flat; very similar to Type 1 #0 used for small electrical components. After making a few cables I started testing them and noticed that the blade cutting the wires sticking out of the pass-through connectors wasn't making a clean cut of the wires. and does not allow a connection to be established. This left many with a sheath around the end of the wire that slipped over the cut wire. I tried cleaning the blade after each cut but that didn't help. I ended up crimping the wires enough to hold them in place and then pulled out the connector, used a blade to make a clean cut, reinserted the connector and finished crimping. that's a problem. It should be sharper and just have a straight blade that makes the cut cleaner. Overall the design is appealing and upon first use I felt like I bought the right tool. But I need a tool that works just as well the 50th time as it did the first time, and that's not the case with this crimping tool set. I had high hopes for this crimping tool set but was disappointed. If I had used it closer to the return window and noticed these issues I would have returned it. I'm sticking with it for now and will try to make some adjustments myself as I'm running 5,000ft of Cat 6 cable so my wife and I can work from home and have 3 kids in high school, high school and college learn virtually. Wired connections are required to maximize throughput for all Zoom sessions.
