This is a very high quality and reliable device. It came and packaged in a sturdy box and the instructions are written in grammatically correct English so I was immediately pleasantly surprised by the quality of the product, packaging and instructions. Seriously, I can't stress enough how often it's possible to get barely understandable instructions from manufacturers in other countries. So being able to get something for a technical device with instructions I could actually understand, especially when you might need to change settings, was a huge plus. The device presets can be changed using the barcodes in the user manual. just point and click. Pretty inventive actually. The USB transmitter works perfectly plug and play on my Windows 10 computer and then immediately communicates with the handheld barcode reader. Wireless is good, although a USB cable is also included to charge the reader's internal batteries or connect to a PC's USB port. I was able to read all my barcodes from frequent shopping cards, loyalty cards, etc. and he entered them straight into the PC app. The wireless dongle worked very well in terms of distance from the computer while gathering information. I had a computer on the back of the house on the second floor and was able to successfully scan the other side of the house on the first floor about 60 feet from me. The scanner is very fast and beeps on each successful read, making it easy to understand when you're not reading a barcode. Some barcodes were received faster than others due to some frayed shipping labels, but all codes were readable. With everything I love about this product and I have to say that there is little to fault, this is the only thing I was hoping for. It was possible to read barcodes from the smartphone screen. My church uses scanners to register children and this is a great portable solution for scanning children's badges. Since people are losing their key fobs (but not their smartphones), I wanted to scan barcodes directly from the barcodes stored on their smartphones. Unfortunately this was not possible. This particular scanner uses a traditional laser scanner which is not easy to read on the electronic display. To do this, you need a different technology than a laser. So I'm updating it to 5 stars as I can't take a star off for something it wasn't originally designed for, but it was worth a try. ;-) It reads codes from typical inventory or shipping labels exceptionally well. and baby keychains for church registration. :-)
