Review on πŸ”’ Optimized AMPLOCK U-TLS2516I RV Trailer Inverted Coupler Lock (Specifically Designed for 2 5/16 inches Couplers) by John Maynard

Revainrating 3 out of 5

May fit, may need modification

I bought this for a 2021 Jayco 22RB. Looks really meaty. This is truly the only secure lock using an Abloy style lock that is difficult to pick. Most other cheaper options are crappy locks that are easy to pick. The problem here is the fit. I don't know if this is due to the tight tolerances AMPLOCK used or poor testing when they designed it. Basically, the locking plunger doesn't go deep enough to dislodge the lip welded onto Jayco's clutch. Maybe Jayco doesn't match that welded part that's added to the underside of the hitch to round out the receiver. I'm posting pictures of the problem to AMPLOCK, who didn't have much input and referred to the width measurement for proper adjustment. It should have been clear from the photo that the problem was the HEIGHT. There may be something wrong between the French and English translations, but that's most likely because a non-mechanic person is working in customer service to help with a small mechanical problem. I even offered some ideas as a solution and wanted to get their best offer. I received an offer to return the product. For a $200 item I was expecting a little more customer service to make sure the product was working. But I guess since Revain footed the bill and would probably take the hit for his return, it didn't really matter that much. I really wanted something solid for my trailer and this is pretty much the only option so I modified the hitch by grinding about 1/16" of the welded complement on the bottom of the hitch to allow the locking plunger to fit underneath. The Lock can also be taken apart fairly easily to grind down 1/16th of the lock plunger if you want to go that route.
