Revainrating 5 out of 5

The latest version (2020) is not exactly the same as the original but still works

I was fortunate to know that Silicon Dust makes a limited edition of this item which is now being discontinued, so I bought this as a backup for my original which I bought in 2013. The original still works well, but 7 years is a long time for electronics, so I was happy to see Revain had a few available. This new version differs from the original from a cosmetic point of view: it no longer has the 3 LEDs on the front that indicate that the tuner is working. I found these LEDs useful because I could monitor my recordings and see at a glance if any of them were losing signal. Of course, it didn't happen very often, but when it did, it was a lifesaver. This latest version comes in a plain white box with no instructions. So if you're a beginner, you'll need to do some research on how to set them up. I'm using mine with Windows Media Center on Windows 7, so all I had to do was run the TV setup procedure for WMC to recognize the new tuner. I didn't have to call my cable company or go through cable card activation procedures. Please note that I am using EPG123 and Schedules Direct for my EPG and had to reload the EPG after running WMC TV Setup. I tested all 3 tuners to make sure I can record 3 programs at the same time. All entries went well. I think the days of cable cards and maybe even cable TV companies are coming to an end, but I'm glad Silicon Dust provided this device so we could have our own HD DVR with no monthly fee. .
