I originally had a Klipsch 2.1 Promedia THX system and they were very loud thanks to the built in power, but they were noticeable and harsh at high frequencies which was annoying during long listening sessions so I wanted something with the better sound , which was more pleasant to hear. I switched to a Yamaha NS-SP1800 system but while they didn't sound harsh and annoying like the Klipsch, they sounded thin like the Klipsch and didn't sound as full as the larger speakers, most likely due to their small size. woofer, I thought. They also found it difficult to raise their voices and their sound pressure level was only 82 dB at 1 meter at 2.83 volts. This seems to be accurate. Then I got a Polk TL1600 kit as a Christmas present. Polk TL1600 subwoofer with TL150 speaker set sounded amazing, WOW was my first thought! They had a full midrange, not subtle at all, and they added some volume! They paired really well with the TL1600 subwoofer that sat next to them and made them sound like one. These are very natural sounding speakers. In fact, they sounded much better than the large Polk T15 bookshelf speakers, which I was disappointed with. However, these T15 speakers are good value budget speakers. I am driving these speakers with a Denon AVR-3803 receiver which has a great amplifier section. I've also used Yamaha speakers with this receiver and used the Denon headphone output for Klipsch Promedia 2.1 speakers. The TL1600 (TL1) speakers sound great, as do my Infinity Reference RS1 bookshelf speakers in my main system. When I installed the Polk TL1 speakers in an entertainment center I noticed that their picture and soundstage were very good and matched my larger Infinity Reference RS1 bookshelf speakers in my main home theater system. The Infinity speakers are louder than the Polk TL1 (main satellite speakers), but they have a 5-1/4" woofer, so I'd rule that out. I have estimated that Polk TL1's have a true sensitivity of around 85 or 86dB at 1 meter with 2.83V. Polk rates them at 89 dB, but they're not that loud. The TL1 center speaker is around 89 decibels, but it has two 2-1/2" woofers instead of a single 2-1/2" TL1 satellite speaker. low frequency speaker. The Polk TL1's satellite and center speakers are very detailed and sound very natural, especially in the mids, but lack the bright and punchy sound of many other high-end speakers that push their highs too far. I can say they don't sound dirty at all like Yamaha and even Definitive Technology speakers might sound. The TL1600 subwoofer had far more connection and adjustment options than the Yamaha. The TL1600 can be compatible with almost any system that Yamaha cannot be compatible with. Also, the TL1600 didn't have the boom of the Yamaha YST-SW012 subwoofer and was far more musical, meaning its bass tones were more distinct there. where they don't mix. The TL1600 subwoofer didn't drop lower in frequency than the Yamaha YST-SW012 subwoofer, but gave the impression that the mid and low basses were heard better because they weren't overshadowed by the high basses. *I'M EDIT* the review since I repositioned the speakers and listened to them for over a week. The more I listen, the more these tiny speakers impress me.
