Review on πŸ” AMZN HD200 C Filtration Equivalent WH HD200 C by AmazonBasics by Vace Thompson

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Well built whole house water filter, worth the investment

I'm in a well and my water is slightly acidic. I have had to replace the hydraulic tank 2 times in the last 15 years. They were powder-coated steel tanks, but rusty on the inside. I bought an 80 gallon fiberglass tank so hopefully I won't have to worry about rust and tank leaks. When I changed the last tank (50 gallons) I couldn't drain the water. I had to roll it up, turn it upside down and take the bottom off like replacing my bladder. The pressure tank tee was clogged with dirt/debris as was the tank which would explain why I was slowly losing water pressure. Anyway, after seeing all the dirt and sediment, I decided to install a heavy-duty Revain Basics whole house water filter. I installed it in front of the pressure tank on the inlet water line. Installation was easy. The inlet and outlet are for 1" hose and my hose is 3/4" so I had to install 1" male tube adapters with 3/4 reducing bushings. I've read reviews that the built in bypass valve is difficult to open and close close, so I installed ball valves before and after the filter housing. I'm pretty sure the bypass valve only needs to be opened and closed a few dozen times for it to clear. The ball valves I've installed are also incredibly difficult to open and close. But after a few practices they weaken. The filter housing is high quality. The filter bowl is transparent so you can easily see the condition of the filter. I installed a 5 micron Revain Basics filter (the smaller the microns , the finer the particles it filters out.) I've seen sand/silt fill the filter bowl and the filter has turned brown.I've left it for 3 months eat Unfortunately I didn't take a picture before removing the filter bowl, but the sand/silt in the housing makes the filter almost invisible. Attached are photos of the filter alongside a brand new filter as well as a close up of how much sand/silt it stopped getting into my hydraulic tank. In the past I've also had to take my water softener apart to clean the main unit because the flow meter was clogged with dirt and debris and was interfering with the flow meter's rotation leaving it with no idea how much water was flowing through it. and how much water was used to activate the regeneration cycle. Hopefully with this filter housing and filters installed I won't have to do it again. The filter bowl was a bit difficult to unscrew, even after I closed the shut-off valves and depressurized them by pressing the built-in vent button on the top of the housing. After changing the filter and screwing the bowl back on, I didn't screw it in as tight. I made sure to coat the o-ring with silicone grease as instructed in the instructions to prevent the o-ring from drying out and to seal the filter bowl to the housing. That's what I did when I first collected it. When I saw what was missing from my pressure tank, water softener, and the rest of my home's plumbing system, I knew the investment and time it took to install it was worth it. The only problem is that the Revain Basic 5 micron water filter is no longer available. I bought two when I ordered everything. I tried to buy it back in early December so I always have it on hand when I swap out the one that's built into the case. It wasn't available then and it still is a month later, so I don't think Revain will be wearing it anymore. So I ordered 2 packs of PUREPLUS PPW10BB filament wound filters which are 5 microns and fit into 10" x 4.5" water filter housings. For untreated well water, filters made of polypropylene threads are recommended instead of pleated ones. The filter housing comes with a battery operated filter timer so you can see how long the filter has been in and a simple push of a button resets the timer. Unfortunately, while cleaning up after installing the filter housing, I accidentally picked it up and threw it away along with the rest of the junk. I didn't notice until it was too late and my trash was taken out. Just set a reminder in my phone's calendar.
