Just Works - I/O Port Cards

I tried very hard to find an eSATA controller that works in my environment: - XPS 8900 - Linux - 2 Addonics port multiplier hard drive enclosures based on the Sil3132 chipset - 4 drives per enclosure with individual drives ranging in capacity from 1.5TB to 5TB. which still make up a large number of eSATA adapters and are 100% based on Sil3132. - The Marvell 88SE9128 chipset based controller I tried didn't work well with the Sil3132 port multiplier: difficulty negotiating eSATA speeds, seeing drives, and only seeing one port multiplier at a time. So I was thrilled to find that this adapter just works. on all fronts. Successfully recognized immediately by BIOS and operating system (Linux), quickly establishes communication with enclosures, recognizes all (8) hard drives on both ports. And (so far) it seems to properly support large (4TB and 5TB) drives, simultaneous I/O on the same port, and hot-plug and hot-plug.

Pros
  • As ASM1061 Media PCI-Express 2.0 SATA 6Gb/s Controller
Cons
  • Upgradeable
